Environmental Impact

A major chunk of the locally procured Sub Bituminous and Lignite Grade coal is primarily burnt in the Brick-Kiln industries. This coal, on average, is subject to more than 30% impurity content with Pyrite Sulphur ranging from 3% - 8% while Ash being 10% - 35% of the total output.

When this coal is burnt in its ‘as-mined’ form, almost 900,000 tons of SO2, NOX and Particulate Emissions are released into the atmosphere posing serious health hazards adding to the risk Eye and Lund diseases.

Moreover, the Flora and Fauna of Pakistan are also seriously affected as their inhabitants suffer a great deal due to this serious atmospheric pollution and contamination. The process of coal beneficiation can act as an effective catalyst in reducing the release of CO2 and other emissions by 7 million tones per annum.

This can have far reaching benefits to the atmospheric layers eventually reducing health hazards faced by humans, and the inhabitants of flora and fauna. This will also promote the concept of green industrial practices encouraging optimal atmospheric conditions that are safer and healthier to live in.

With respect to its environmental practices, the Company is thoroughly particular about the disposal of effluents. The entire coal rejects (including ash), accounts for 5% of the total output and is carefully disposed off in un-habitated mountain pits 1.5 KM away from the plant site.
